With a wide range of artistic and cultural activities stretching from the ancient town to neighboring heritage areas, this is definitely a colorful journey you cannot miss.

  • Time: December 3 – 6, 2026
  • Location: Hoi An Ancient Town

The 2026 International Lantern Festival – “Hoi An – Colors of Heritage”

According to the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center, the Hoi An International Lantern Festival will officially take place from December 3 to 6, 2026. Under the theme “Hoi An – Colors of Heritage,” the event is not only a visual feast of light but also an opportunity to preserve and honor the traditional lantern-making craft — the soul of this heritage city.

The festival space will span across iconic destinations within the ancient town, including Hoai River Square, An Hoi Statue Garden, along both banks of the Hoai River, and winding through its narrow streets. The already romantic Hoi An Ancient Town will become more magical and sparkling than ever before.

Unique Experiences within the Festival

Coming to this year’s International Lantern Festival, visitors will step into a space of unlimited artistic creativity with a series of captivating activities:

  • Lantern art installation space: Admire giant lantern artworks of various shapes and colors designed by talented artisans.
  • Lantern crafting experience: Make traditional lanterns with your own hands under the guidance of locals.
  • “Lanterns and Reborn Art” Exhibition: A fresh perspective on traditional crafts linked to environmental protection and sustainable development.
  • “Colors of Heritage” & “Minh Dang Da Hanh” (Night Lantern Walk) art programs: Poetic performances by the breezy Hoai River.
  • Hoi An craft talk show: A place to interact and listen to stories about the journey of preserving traditional crafts during integration.

Series of Year-End Cultural & Art Events

The Lantern Festival is just the central highlight of a series of experiential activities lasting from November 2026 to early 2027, connecting Hoi An, My Son, the mountainous areas, and central Da Nang.

Celebrating 40 Years of Hoi An Heritage Preservation

Kicking off just before the Lantern Festival, from November 20 to December 5, 2026, Hoi An will organize a series of activities to celebrate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day under the theme “Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Preservation Center – 40 years of construction and development.” History-loving tourists can participate in a national conference on the commercial port city, visit the “Ancient Space” exhibition of Han-Nom inscribed documents, or witness the inauguration ceremony for the Hoi An Prison relic restoration project.

Echoes of My Son and Highland Cultural Colors

Not far from Hoi An, the My Son Sanctuary will host the “Echoes of My Son” art program (taking place in mid-November and December, with two daily time slots at 9:00 and 14:45 at tower groups B and C). Folk dances, Cham folk songs, and the Ciet dance will blend traditional art into the sacred temple space.

The series of events also reaches the western mountainous areas. On November 16, Tra Linh commune will organize the Mountain God Worship Ceremony of the Xo Dang ethnic group featuring traditional dances and gong ensembles. This is followed by the Cultural Week “Quintessence of Culture – Power of Great Unity” (November 18 – 24), highlighted by an art night at Tien Son Sports Palace (November 23) and the “Highland Cultural Colors” program in Kham Duc commune (November 26).

Welcoming Christmas and New Year 2027

Entering December, the festive atmosphere becomes even more bustling with the Christmas Market at Ariyana Da Nang (December 4 – 6), gathering over 80 craft, food, and gift stalls. Finally, to close out 2026, the Countdown event series will explode from December 30, 2026, to January 3, 2027, at Bach Dang Pedestrian Street, Dragon Bridge, Bien Dong Park (Da Nang), Tam Thanh Square, Tay Giang, and Hoi An Ancient Town. The Da Nang Concert on January 1, 2027, at the Da Nang Museum promises to kick off a thrilling new year.
